Greetings, delegates!

My name is Kezia Alaia, a second-year student of Media Studies in Universitas Indonesia's Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. As your Secretary-General and on behalf of the Board, I warmly welcome you to this year's High School Model United Nations (H!MUN 2015).

Last year, I interviewed a freshman in one of the phases of UI MUN Club's international delegation selections. He majors in Biology. Most UI MUN Club's members are International Relations/Economics/Law students, so I wanted to know what motivated him into joining Model UN. He said, as a Biology student, one day he dreams of proposing a theory of his own or a concept contradicting what is currently established. To be able to explain, argue for and debate upon his innovations in the field of Biology to the academia, he needs to master public speaking, negotiation and diplomacy skills. These are the skills you learn while doing Model UN.

I believe that this is why every student in this nation should have an encounter with, and experiences of, Model UN. Whether you are a student, a future mathematician, a future artist or a Grammy winner-to-be, you need to be able to present yourself in front of the people. You need to be able to stand up for yourself, for your ideas, for your works. You need to be able to work with people and collaborate with brilliant minds alike. You need to be able to analyze and solve problems. You need to be able to make your ideas clear to people, so that it can manifest into reality and inspire more souls out there.

As for myself, I have always dreamed of being a journalist slash an author. I live in the written world, I speak written languages and understand the world through books. I do not dream of working in the United Nations HQ. I dream of working for ANTARA or Kompas or Tempo, or to write my own book on whatever is of my interest at the time. I dream of being a lecturer in a good university, understanding the world through theoretical frameworks and helping the world understand itself through my words. My Model UN experiences have taught me a lot of things I need in pursuing these dreams I have.

Model UN will allow you to learn all the things you need to be the best people in your preferred fields. Conquer your worries and sign up to compete as a delegate in H!MUN 2015. I promise you, this will change your life, and the way you see the world. Model UN is for everyone, especially you, motivated young people with the dream of never being a finished person.

Learn a lot, meet brilliant people and unleash your inner brilliance. Join H!MUN 2015.

See you in May!

Kezia Alaia

Secretary-General of H!MUN 2015
