"Gender Equality: A Failed Notion?"

"The day will come when men will recognize woman as his peer, not only at the fireside, but in councils of the nation. Then, and not until then, will there be the perfect comradeship, the ideal union between the sexes that shall result in the highest development of the race."
—Susan B. Anthony, social reformer and feminist

We have come into the era where women and men are equals. The conventional way of positioning women and men in a hierarchy has been transformed into the new way of equal rights, equal participation; Gender Equality.

Yet, the notion of gender equality fails as it exclude men in its practices. We need to remember that gender equality is everyone's fight: Men should be involved, too, in the process of having both genders involved in national, regional and international social political and economic platforms. The notion of gender equality fails as well when it shifts from the idea of being equals into superiority of women over men; into spreading hatred toward other genders. The notion of gender equality also fails when it does not take into account the presence of other genders outside of the mainstream.

High School Model United Nations 2015 (H!MUN 2015) invites you to represent a country in the committee of UN Women. UN Women is the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Remember, this is NOT a women-only committee. We encourage men to get involved, too, in the ensuring equality within the debate.
