Futuristic Security Council

"Reforming the Global Power Distribution"

Security Council reform is the most important aspect of the United Nations' institutional reform. I sincerely hope that Member States will make progress on this issue because, considering the tremendous, dramatic changes in the international political scene during the last 60 years, it is necessary that the Security Council be expanded in a manner that will be acceptable to the Member States. For my part, I will spare no effort to facilitate such consultations among Member States to enable Security Council reform.”

- Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations

The United Nations have helped achieve global peace and unity. But is that it? How about the conflict in Syria where "more than 140,000 people was killed, millions exiled, and millions more internally displaced"? How about the conflicts and wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Nicaragua, Chile, Iran, Vietnam and Kosovo? The Security Council has been accused of being western-centered, is it true that that is why it has failed to act upon the conflicts and foster peace? The veto rights of permanent members, is it still relevant today? How about the equality of representation and power distribution? Is it fair that the big nations have the veto power to decide upon the destiny of many?

High School Model United Nations 2015 (H!MUN 2015) invites you to represent a country, or a party, in the committee of Futuristic UN Security Council. Delegates interested in international security and wars/conflicts resolution, peacekeeping and the use of armed forces/weaponry, are invited to discuss upon the reformation of this controversially powerful committee. This is an ambitious committee where delegates are expected to speak up loud and clear for the transformation of the world's order
